Can you walk with a concussion?

Yes, you can often go on short, leisurely walks with a concussion after the first 24–48 hours, as long as it doesn't make you noticeably worse along the way or the next day.

After a concussion, you can usually start walking again after 24–48 hours, if symptoms allow. The level of activity must be controlled according to symptom load. Start with slow walking on flat ground, in short sessions, and stop if symptoms increase significantly or do not normalize quickly afterwards.

Duration and pace can be gradually increased over the next few days. Avoid running, steep hills, and activities with a risk of falling at first. The goal is early, safe movement without overloading the brain within the first 48-72 hours.

If intolerance to activity and sensory input persists for longer than 48-72 hours, you should contact your GP.
