What is stroke warning?
Warning signs of stroke are often the same symptoms as those of stroke, except that they can be transient (TIA/“drip”). They come on suddenly and should ALWAYS be taken as an emergency warning.
Typical “warning signs” / acute signs (TIA or stroke)Symptoms occur suddenly, often only one or a few of these: - Sudden weakness or numbness in the face, arm or leg on one side - Sudden crooked smile or drooping corner of the mouth - Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding what others are saying (slurred speech, slurred speech) - Sudden vision problems (blurred vision, loss of vision in one eye or half of the field of vision, double vision) - Sudden severe dizziness or balance problems - Sudden, unusually severe headache (especially if bleeding occurs)A “drip” (TIA) causes the same symptoms, but they can completely go away within minutes to less than an hour. It is still a serious WARNING that you are at risk of a major stroke and requires urgent help. The FAST rule (easy rule to remember)F – Face: crooked smile, drooping corners of the mouthA – Arms: unable to lift both arms equallyS – Language: slurred, strange or missing speechT – Time: CALL 113 AT ONCEFAST is used for both strokes and TIAs, and Helsenorge recommends calling 113 immediately with such symptoms. Important: Even if the symptoms pass quickly (typically with a “drip”), you should still call 113/emergency room immediately – this is precisely the “early warning” of a possible major stroke.
